CRATE PACKING
_______# Crates per person
_______# Totes per person
_______# Computer Bags per person
Packing Fundamentals:
• Start by placing a 4 wheeler on the ground and an empty crate on top of it
• Pack heaviest items in the bottom crate keeping in mind these crates can weigh 50 lbs to 200 lbs
• Try to make sure the items cannot shift around in the crate
• Do not pack:
• Your computer (See section on “How to prepare your computer”)
• Liquids
• Food
• Flammables
• Once the first crate is full, close the interlocking lids and place an open empty crate on top of it
• Repeat this process for crates 3 and 4. This will save your back from having to lift the crates once they are full
• Each crate should be labeled on its side (See the “Sample label” for proper labeling guidelines)
• Crates should be stacked 4 high
• It is ok to pack the 4th crate on the ground
• It can be left on the floor for the movers to stack at the time of the move
• Make sure to label the crate
• Do not move crates on your own, leave it to the movers on move day
Things that the plastic crates are not used for:
• Taking items home (Cardboard totes should be used)
• Packing of items that will not be unpacked right away (Cardboard totes should be used)
• They are not a step stool or ladder and should not be used as such
UNPACKING:
•One week to unpack and return crates to staging area
•Once the crates are unpacked they can be placed on a 4 wheeler with the flaps open
•Empty crates can be stacked in groups of 20
•4 wheelers can be stacked in groups of 10
